The Health and Safety at Work (Hazardous Substances) Regulations 2017 allow WorkSafe to issue performance standards that set out requirements that a compliance certifier must comply with when performing their functions.

Compliance certifiers check PCBU compliance with specific requirements to ensure hazardous substances are safely used, handled, stored or manufactured. A compliance certifier has the authority to issue a compliance certificate where the Regulations specify that one must be obtained to verify these requirements have been met.

Before issuing a performance standard we must consult compliance certifiers and any other persons we consider appropriate. Your comments and feedback about the draft compliance certification performance standard will be considered prior to finalising the performance standard.

Feedback is welcomed from individuals, businesses and industry associations. If you are an industry association, please bring this consultation to the attention of your members.
