An independent expert review has confirmed that Energy Safety’s advice on removing specific clauses from the electrical wiring regulations was sound and technically justified.
The changes were needed to support modern energy systems, including renewable generation, battery storage, backup power, and electric vehicle charging, while maintaining safety.
The review found that although some residual risks remain, these risks are well understood and can be managed through existing controls and further guidance. Many are already mitigated through licensing, inspection, and product standards. The report recommends additional guidance and standards to support safe island mode operation and emerging technologies.
Overall, the review confirms the advice supports innovation, energy resilience, and safety, consistent with Energy Safety’s role as the electricity and gas regulator.
