We will provide clearer and more accessible guidance, progress practical approved codes of practice, strengthen the capability and consistency of our inspectorate, and improve the way we oversee high-risk activities and third-party operators.

We will support businesses and workers to understand changes to health and safety legislation and what those changes mean in practice. Our aim is to give duty holders greater certainty about what they need to do, when they have done enough, and how to avoid unnecessary over-compliance.

We will continue to focus on higher-risk sectors, including agriculture, construction, forestry, and manufacturing, while responding to serious harm wherever it occurs. We will use data, feedback, and frontline insight to better target our work, improve our services, and strengthen confidence in our decisions.

WorkSafe will enforce when obligations are not met. That enforcement will be fair, consistent, and proportionate. Our strongest impact, however, will come from helping businesses and workers understand and manage the risks that matter most before harm occurs.

The Board and leadership team are focused on building a practical, credible, and effective regulator. This statement of performance expectations sets out the work we will deliver in 2026/27, the results we are seeking, and how we will account for our performance.
