New Zealand directors must actively play their part to improve health and safety outcomes in Aotearoa New Zealand.

The Institute of Directors (IoD) and WorkSafe have released a new resource to help directors and other "officers”, as they are known under legislation, find ways to improve their own organisations’ performance.

Produced in association with the Business Leaders Health and Safety Forum, the General Manager Safety Forum, and WorkSafe, the guide outlines a principles-based approach and a focus on understanding and managing risk.

The primary purpose of this guide is to provide advice to officers on how to deliver better health and safety governance with a view to creating better performance outcomes.

It is supported by a quick guide to the essentials of health and safety governance, and a self-assessment tool that boards can use to measure their current approach against best practice.
