Feedback sought on draft hazardous substances policy

30 March 2012

The Department of Labour (now the Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment) is seeking feedback on a draft policy statement which outlines how it enforces the safe management of hazardous substances in the workplace.

‘Hazardous Substances in the Workplace – The Department of Labour’s (now the Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment) policy statement on enforcing the safe management of hazardous substances in workplaces’, aims to provide the public with greater certainty about how the Department enforces the HSNO Act and the HSE Act in relation to hazardous substances in New Zealand workplaces.

The policy outlines the Department of Labour’s (now the Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment) role and the relationship between the HSE and HSNO Acts as the two main pieces of legislation covering hazardous substances in workplaces. There is also information on how the Department checks and supports compliance and responds to breaches of the HSE and HSNO Acts in the workplace context.

Consultation documents can be found of the Department of Labour (now the Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment) website. Consultation closes on 21 May 2012.
