Why we are here?

WorkSafe’s High Hazards Unit (HHU) geothermal inspectorate has the inspection and enforcement role, and the team is focussing predominantly on the process safety systems supporting workplace practice. Process safety focuses on low probability – high consequence in the potential for major accident events.

Geothermal systems have inherent and significant hazards as they draw high temperature fluids from deep earth. These fluids can carry a mixture of dangerous gases, notably carbon dioxide, hydrogen, methane and ammonia.
