Air Quality in the Extractives Industry (ACOP)

This approved code of practice sets out WorkSafe’s expectations for addressing risks relating to air quality in the extractives industry (mining and tunnelling operations, and alluvial mining and quarrying operations). It provides information on:

  • assessing air quality in extractive operations
  • selecting and implementing controls for air quality in extractive operations
  • developing a principal hazard management plan (PHMP) for air quality.

This code is for persons conducting a business or undertaking (PCBU) operating in the extractives industry, any person in a safety critical role in the extractives industry, the extractives operator, and anyone else involved in managing risks relating to air quality. This includes workers and other persons at the operation.

It comes into force on 27 October 2016.
